Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 (NIV)
Ask, Seek, Knock and Never Stop – The Seekers Series – Part 3
Go to PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 | PART 4 | PART 5
Some stop seeking God because they think they found him at conversion, or at church, or at a specific moment; they live as if they have arrived at truth and holiness and God.
When really, the moment you become awake, aware and alive to The Divine is just the beginning of the search. It’s the start to “seeking God”… and I’m not sure there’s a finish line.
There is so much to discover about faith and grace and ourselves and Jesus and the Bible and humanity and goodness and light… more than we can possibly uncover in one lifetime. It’s a sad thing to live with the idea that there is no more to learn, that we have everything right, and that we know the whole truth. Yet we all do to some degree.
We lose that wide-eyed wonder we saw the world with when we were children. We stop asking “why?” (maybe because we were told not to when we were kids) We’ve stopped looking under rocks at the water's edge. We don’t have time to explore the hidden path at the end of the lane, or take a road trip up north just for the sake of exploring.
We stagnant so much that we forget that God lives in movement.
Ask, seek, knock: don’t live as if you've arrived at truth, or finality, or wisdom or love or hope or peace. Live into those things, seek them out, follow them down the path, ask the questions:
Peace, how?
Love, how?
Pray for my enemy, how?
Kingdom come, how?
Good politics, how?
Freedom, how?
Seek and seek and seek, and never stop. Each ‘answer’ you find along the way will be a stepping stone to another question.
You don’t have to give up your ideas or passions or hobbies or even people to seek God. It’s not an ‘either/or' equation. You’ll find the Divine in the middle of it all when you look hard enough. And “all these things,” (Matt 6:33) all of it…
Everything within you and around and about you will find meaning in him.
