Plant Your Gift – The Seed Series – Part 7 - Pocket Fuel on Matt 13:31

The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches. Matt 13:31-32 (ESV)

I wonder what seeds lie within you?
What tiny orbs of potential do you hold in your hands?
Will you plant them? Bury them in the dirt, plant them deep within the cold, dark, mystery of faith?

I wonder if you’ve shelved any. Has fear kept you from planting your gifts and talents; from doing the work of living; and for waiting with bated breath as the mystery of faith takes our tiny seeds and grows them into something miraculous?

At the least, you have been given a great gift; seed of such importance that the world needs you to plant it in faith and watch it grow beyond all you could even think or dream it could go:

Your life.

No matter what you’ve done, what's happened to you, where you’re at, what you believe, what you are… all of it. Your life IS a gift. First, its a gift to you. Live it fully, suck the marrow out of it. Plant it, let it grow beyond you. Second, what you do with your life is your gift to the world. Give it freely, without restraint, with love.

Remember this:

Seeds grow out of sight. You probably won’t have the cheer of the crowd, or the approval of the world while your seed is tucked away being unlocked and brought to growth. This season is a holy one. Treasure those sacred moments of ambiguity and intimacy with God as you trust him in the process.

And there is depth in the everyday. In the ordinary, in what seems like dirt, normal, average life-type-stuff, dwells the miraculous. Don’t overlook it.

Be thankful for what you have, and be thankful for who are. Even in the smallest, tiniest, dullest looking seeds, lie the potential for growth, maturity, belonging, community and love. A most wondrous beauty.

Here's a thought from one of my favourite authors to close this series:

“Gratitude for the seemingly insignificant – a seed – this plants the giant miracle. The miracle of eucharisteo, like the Last Supper, is in the eating of the crumbs, the swallowing down one mouthful. Do not disdain the small. The whole of life – even the hard – is made up of the minute parts, and if I miss the infinitesimals, I miss the whole.” – Ann Voskamp, “One Thousand Gifts: A Dare to Live Fully Right Where You Are.

Grace and peace friends,
