Write Yourself a Love Letter on 1 Timothy 1:2

I decree over your life today, abundant grace, mercy, and total well-being from God the Father and the Anointed One, our Lord Jesus. 1 Timothy 1:2 (TPT)

WRITE YOURSELF A LOVE LETTER

If you could write your January-2017-self a letter to prepare you for the year ahead, what would it say?

Would the tone be gentle or harsh?
The script rushed and urgent or paced and poetic?
Would you tell yourself the events and highlights, giving anecdotal advice?
Or would you focus on things you might need – like courage, empathy, or a handy kitchen tool – to steer you through the yet unknown?
Would laughter drip off each word? Or would tears stain the pages?

What would the Mary “at the foot of her son's cross” write to the “just given birth to Jesus” Mary?

It's incredible how we all face the same days, the same years, we live under the same sun and sleep under the same moon, yet our experiences can be so different and unique.

Take some time to take stock. And then write yourself a love letter about it.

And, Yep! Make it a love letter. There’s power in your words and intentions, and your body and spirit will be impacted by them. You are worthy of love and worthy of treating yourself like you would someone you love. All lasting change that’s healthy and transformative begins with love, not hate or shame.

This is a practice I do every year. It helps me be objective about where I am, how far I’ve come, and what’s left to do. More than anything, I feel that 2017 was a year of “preparation.” I would say to my January '17 self: Get serious about your health – you’re going need it to achieve all that’s in your heart. But don’t be so serious about your work. Laugh a little more. For God’s sake, play with your kids. Read some books. Ditch gluten. Resist the temptation to polarise. Love more. Put yourself out there, not to please people, but to be true to you. And even though not everything will work out OK, you will be OK.

And now, on this second day in 2018, just like Mary did the night she found out she was pregnant with Jesus, I hear the Divine whispering new life into my bones.

Where will those whispers take me?
Where will they take you?

Paul wrote Timothy a letter that you could use as a template for your own. It started like this:

To my dear son, Timothy… I decree over your life today, abundant grace, mercy, and total well-being from God the Father and the Anointed One, our Lord Jesus.” (1 Tim 1:1-2).

We’d love to read your letter! You can share it with us via email: hello@pktfuel.com.
