My prayer for all of you is that your hearts will be wrapped in the comfort of heaven and woven together into love’s fabric. Colossians 2:2 (TPT)
Woven Together into Love’s Fabric – Christmas Day
I want to take a moment to thank you for all your support and love – all the emails and comments – it means the world to us. You are such a gift to the spiritual practice we call Pocket Fuel, and I hope you know how humbled and grateful we are that you’re journeying along with us.
Wherever you find yourself today, whatever plans you have, and whoever you are with: within it all, we pray you find Divine presence. That might be harder for some than it is for others, and that’s OK. Things change, seasons move, nothing is permanent. But hope and grace can be, and is, always yours.
“The greatest mysteries are the simplest ones. Those are the ones that we confront every day… And the genius of God is that he dwells where we would least likely look, within the depths of our own being, our own shallowness, our own darkness, our own humanity.” Martin Sheen, on the “Onbeing” podcast hosted by Krista Tippett.
You don’t need a grand Christmas day to find God within. God can be found in the most interesting, surprising, unexpected places. Like in a broken nation; Shepherds on a hillside; a town busting at the seams with people who were taxed out of nearly all they had; an unwed young Jewish girl; the pain, and grit of labor and the bloody-ness of birth (is there a more miraculous place?)…
Like in your life.
In your home.
In your body.
In your heart.
The hope of Christmas is Emmanuel, God with us. Not in spite of us, but because of US. Because of love. May the story of Jesus' birth and all of its complexities fill you with hope and joy no matter what is going on around you or within you. God incarnate is not a whimsical tale of a cute baby born in a stable; it’s a provocative story about courage, darkness, hope, light, and love. God, the Divine and wondrous, at home among us.
The greatest mysteries are the simplest ones.
“My prayer for all of you is that your hearts will be wrapped in the comfort of heaven and woven together into love’s fabric. The certainty of your faith will give you access a to all the riches of God as you experience the revelation of God’s great mystery — Christ unveiled within you.” Paul, Col 2:2.
Merry Christmas, friend.
Liz and Jesse.
