I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. – Psalm 104:33 (NIV)
Worship is a choice. It's not based on feelings or mood. It's a posture we lean into with our whole selves. Which means there are times we must decide and are faced with a decision to worship.
The writer of this Psalm makes a statement – a decision “I will sing”… It wasn't a romantic notion or pretty thing to say… it's a declaration; I WILL sing… I WILL!
Each day, during good and bad times, moment by moment, despite circumstance, I will make the will of my heart and spirit to incline towards heaven and sing – make an outward expression of my worship to God. “All the days of my life.” That needs no explanation but to say that the psalmist is making a decision that impacts today, tomorrow, his whole life. It's a powerful thing to decide from the outset what the position and posture of your heart will be, no matter what you face.
When you make that decision now, in the moment of question, your heart is ready – it knows the answer – the response to this situation is to worship. When you make no decisions, and just live life reacting to your circumstance, it’s much more difficult to make the decision to worship in the heat of the moment. Your experiences lead you, rather than you leading them.
Make the decision today, right now, that your response to whatever happens, good or bad, will be to sing… to vocalise your worship to God.
You can think it in your heart, but when you speak, or sing it out – it changes the atmosphere.
