Whenever I read this passage it reminds me of the old Byrds song…probably like many of you! “To everything… turn, turn, turn. There is a season… turn, turn, turn.” It’s actually based on this verse. One thing we as humans need to get hold of is that God can turn everything, every heartache and highlight, into an opportunity to grow and learn. An opportunity to give Him glory and honour. It might be the passing of a loved one or an award for a job well done but there is a season for everything and purpose in it all. Our job is to find it, learn from it and then sway and move with the season. There’s no use trying to pick up all the leaves and stick them back on the tree in autumn (fall) or block out the sun and rug up because you love winter, even though it’s summer! No as the season comes around you dress appropriately and respond accordingly.
So too with the seasons of life. Fighting against them only causes more angst and frustration and is an incredible waste of energy. But harnessing them and looking for their purpose means you’ll leverage the most value out of each season. Understanding each season also means you recognise that they come to an end and a new one starts. If you’re currently in a winter, it’ll end… the rain, the cold and bitterness will turn to spring, the season of new life and restoration. Wherever you’re at today recognise the season and know that it won’t last forever. Leverage it and get the most from it, then you'll see God’s purpose in it and propel yourself into the next one.
