When everything was hopeless, Abraham believed anyway, deciding to live not on the basis of what he saw he couldn’t do but on what God said he would do. Rom 4:18 (MSG)
What happens to you when everything is hopeless?
Some people meltdown, give up and hang up their hats. They walk away with head bowed low, dragging their feet (and bottom lip) and kicking the dirt.
Still some miss the opportunity that can be found in those dark and desperate seasons and all they look for is more darkness.
And so they miss the little tiny glimmer of light. The hope that says, “but wait! There’s still a chance!”
A chance to believe. The possibility of a miracle. The indicators that suggest you might get a break.
It’s the people that look for this kind of hope in hopeless situations that often find what they’re looking for.
One of my favourite authors, Seth Godin, had his first book rejected by over 900 publishers in the first year. That’s a bucket-load of rejection right there. It could most certainly be defined as “a hopeless situation”. And yet today he has authored over 17 books, most of which are best sellers with one of the recent books being the most successful book launched on Kickstarter. Ever.
When everything was hopeless, Seth and Abraham believed anyway.
Are you going to give up on believing? Or is it worth enough to keep believing for instead? To keep searching for that little glimmer of hope and light?
Or are you content with the dark? Leaving your dreams and desires in a room where they’ll never see the light of day.
Abraham chose to live, not on the basis of what he saw, but on the basis of what God promised him. The small whispers in his heart. The longing deep within his bones.
If your season is presenting hopelessness, look a little harder, search a little deeper and just believe anyway.

I can’t tell you just how much I needed to read this today. My heart has been so hopeless. Thank you for asking us to live on the basis of what God has promised and not on what we can see or feel. So grateful.
Hey Charissa! Keep your chin up and keep on hoping! Look for the good and you WILL find it. Thanks for your comment – it means a lot to us.. Much love

Thank you so much, Jesse! I need to do just that. And I’m glad you mentioned to look for the good. I made a list of all the ways I saw God caring for me yesterday, and I’m going to keep doing this, no matter what I see or feel. God bless you guys!
