A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones. (Prov 14:30)

There is so much directed at us about keeping our bodies healthy these days. I'm glad there is, as I think physical health is vitally important! Whenever I hear the “C-word” (cancer) it sends a little chill down my spine and I ask myself quietly “how can I avoid that?”. I guess the same would apply to most people. More and more research is pointing toward mental health relating to physical health. For example, if there's extreme mental and emotional stress in your life, it's bound to outwork itself physically in your body! If your thought process is out of whack then it's going to translate to your bodily health. This passage says that “jealousy is like cancer to the bones”. Essentially the scripture is trying to point out that jealousy is a dangerous mindset to get stuck in. Jealousy, most often, is spurred on by insecurity and insecurity often stems from emotional pain. We all battle it to varying degrees because we've all suffered pain. It's a coping mechanism that is brought on by our sin nature. It's why Adam and Eve hid in the Garden. Insecurity causes us to present a false front to hide what's really going on underneath. It comes from a place of fear that there won't be a positive outcome for our future. When it's put like that, does it sound like the way God would want us to think? No way! Jealousy and insecurity come from a place of doubting God's best intentions. They're steeped in doubt that God could possibly come through and the thought processes that are connected with them, are toxic. Today, make a decision to war against insecurity and jealousy in your life. Read about God's promises and trust in them for your life and health. Much love.
