The Here I Am Series – Part 5

The vision of Isaiah and his “Here I am, Lord” moment could be one of the most well-known stories in our faith communities (found in Isaiah 6).
But something interesting happens in Isaiah 52:
“Early on, my people went to Egypt and lived, strangers in the land. At the other end, Assyria oppressed them. And now, what have I here?”
God’s Decree.
“My people are hauled off again for no reason at all. Tyrants on the warpath, whooping it up, and day after day, incessantly, my reputation blackened. Now it’s time that my people know who I am, what I’m made of—yes, that I have something to say. Here I am!” (Isa 52:4-6).
Here I am is a two-way street. A “draw near to God and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8) type thing. When we show up for our lives, it’s as if the Divine shows up, too. He’s been there all along of course, but in that moment of awareness and wakefulness, it's as if we feel him more closely.
Whatever you’re saying “hineni” to today, know that the Divine, the creator of all things, the essence and power that got this whole started, unconditional love, says it right back.
To your pain, your joy, your challenge, your responsibility, your heartache, your power, your sense of purpose, your anger and fear and doubt and longing and laughter and outrage; all the stuff going on in the world today, the good, the bad, the ugly, the outrageous, the unfair, the beautiful, the holy, and the mess;
God offers his total availability to any and all who would have it. He says:
Here I am.
Even in the midst of this.
