Do Something New – Digital Sabbath Series
**WE INTERRUPT THE PRACTICE SERIES FOR A DIGITAL SABBATH**
Having a digital Sabbath is a practice that we’re continuing this year. For one day over the weekend, we turn off all our devices – phones, computers, tablets – we ignore our emails and messages (except for the fun ones), the to-do list and expectations, and we rest. For those who have trouble with the word “rest,” you might like to call it “recovery” instead. Think of it as a time to put back into your body and spirit all the energy it has spent during this last week. It’s a day to think and pray, to get lost in the beauty and wonder of life, and breathe.
We’ve been talking about what we practice day in and day out, and as a bit of a new practice this year, I’ve been reciting this phrase:
“I close my eyes to old ends, and open my heart to new beginnings.”
Perhaps, today, this is something you need to do, too. Pray about it. Lean into it. Grieve the old if you need to, and don’t let fear keep you from the “new” the Divine is ushering into your life.
From my experience, God is always up to something. We don’t often see it, though; we’re too busy looking for the miraculous beyond ourselves. But I find that the “new” springs up right in the middle of where we are now.
“I am about to do something new;
Even now it shall come to pass,
Suddenly you shall perceive it:
I will make a road through the wilderness,
And rivers in the desert.”
Now go; Sabbath well.
Much love, Lizzy and Jesse.
