Disturb us Lord, to dare more boldly – Sir Francis Drake

Contentment is the ideal platform to launch into your destiny. It guards your heart against disappointment, it keeps you buoyant during failure, stirs thankfulness for each moment and gift… It's the position of living independent of your external circumstances.

Internally, you have all you need… The love of God is your satisfaction, His grace your true north, His purpose your hope and joy. And with that kind of clarity, we have no excuse not to sail away from the shores of stagnant living and onto the oceans of discovering God’s promises and purposes.

Fear holds you back, not contentment. It makes friends with laziness and the two make a devious pair.

Shake them off, pick yourself up,

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

1 Thess 5:16-17.

It’s about presence not performance. Contentment disturbs us in our stagnant state, and wakes us up to the love that is all around us and the hope that is before us. It stirs our boldness and confidence in our union with Christ and urges us on.

This beautiful prayer, that many of you will be familiar with is very dear to us and encapsulates these thoughts beautifully…

Don’t be afraid to lose sight of the shore.

by Sir Francis Drake
1540 – 1596

Disturb us, Lord, when We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.
