Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.

Ps 127:4 (NLT)

This is the famous passage in Psalms that proclaims “Children are a gift from God”… Which, for us who are parents, we know to be true. Even though there are moments where I say to myself “where did these kids come from?” (moments of quiet, or not so quiet, desperation – come on, every parent knows what I'm talking about…), My children are the dearest humans, closest to my heart, I would do anything for them, my heart is full to the brim of them, of my thoughts, hopes and prayers for them, and of my love for them. BUT before all of you who don't have kids switch off, I'm not just talking to parents here. Children are a gift. Full Stop. They are meant to be arrows, weapons, mighty and strong. Defended, cared for, diligently moulded for their future by people who love them and want nothing more for them but to excel in whatever it is they were placed on earth for. Regardless of whether or not we are all parents, we all have the responsibility to protect children, stand up for them and be their voice. As a parent, I know that you need more than just a mum and/or dad to raise a child – it really does take a village. Some of my earliest memories include not just the things that my family said and did to me, but those around them also. Words and actions seep deep into a child's heart whether they remember them or not, and mould the framework or their lives and future. Its God’s desire that children grow up strong… nurtured in such a way that when the time is right, they shoot out of a warriors hand with great determination, purpose and direction to hit the target they were created for. So today, take special care of what you say to children – yours or others… and give them hope, strength and courage for the days ahead.
