Through your descendants all the families on earth will be blessed. (Acts 3:25 NLT)
This was a promise that God made to a childless Abraham. A man, and his wife, still waiting for the promise of legacy. And not just any legacy, but a people group who would go out with the message of hope engraved on their hearts. For those of you who know the story, through a series of events and some intense waiting, Abraham and Sara had a child. And from this child the nation of Israel was born. In the book of Acts, Paul is encouraging the Church that they are part of the generation Abraham was promised. Its not a promise to us – through your children the earth will be blessed (although, I will claim that too!) – its a promise about us… who we are and what we will be in the earth. We are the descendants, spiritually, of Abraham… His legacy. Through US, ALL the families on earth will be blessed. Not just the families on your street, not just the families in your church, but it is Gods desire and purpose that through you and I, ALL families through the entirety of the earth will be blessed. What an incredible mandate and privilege. That God would use me at all, let alone to bless the earth, blows my mind. Its actually entwined into the very fabric of our beings. So on this fine 6th day of Compassion week, take a moment to mediate on the fact that you are the promise, we are the descendants who carry blessing and hope in our hearts through the earth. Consider today what that looks like for you… Maybe you could sponsor a child, take a missions trip, bake a cake and take it next door – whatever… just go for it. You were designed exactly for it.
