REFLECTION
“Then Jesus went to work on his disciples. “Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat; I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how. Self-help is no help at all. Self-sacrifice is the way, my way, to finding yourself, your true self. What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself? What could you ever trade your soul for?” Matthew 16:24-25 MSG.
We looked at the above verse this week from a bit of a different perspective. I would love to know your thoughts and hear some of your stories around this. What does this verse mean to you? Email us at talktous@pktfuel.com. And as always, take some time to go back and read over any devotions you may have missed… or revisit ones that stirred and challenged you.
If I can encourage you in anything today, it would be to embrace the suffering and the discomfort of discovering your true self. Dig deep. Don’t run from the confrontation, but take Jesus with you – rather, let him lead you through. Don’t run from your life just because it's a little hard or you’d rather fill your days with Netflix, wine, and pizza… (which always turns sour anyway… ha!). Do the work. Take the time. And ask yourself:
What kind of deal is it to get everything you want but lose yourself?
What could you ever trade your soul for?
Think about this: “One does not surrender a life in an instant. That which is lifelong can only be surrendered in a lifetime.” Elisabeth Elliot.
May you embark on the quest of a lifetime where you journey closer to the real you and the heart of God at the very same time. May Christ’s death unite within you the death of selfishness and bring about a resurrection of faith, hope and love.
