Jesus says here in this famous account of the woman at the well, that true worship is in “spirit and truth”. You and I both know that God can only deal in truth. The enemy, on the other hand, deals in mis-truths and un-truths. His motivation is to steal, kill and destroy…through lies! He is known as the “Father of lies” and so he will sow doubt and deceit into your thought life and self-worth and ultimately your sense of value before God! The Bible says that “truth makes us free” – it's the truth of who Jesus is, what He's done on the cross for us and who He is inside us that makes us free. The Bible says that it's The Holy Spirit who reveals the truth to us (1 John 5:7) and that it actually witnesses to our own spirit. So when you worship God in ‘spirit and truth' God reveals to you how valuable you are through His Holy Spirit. Check out Romans 8:16 which says “For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” Simply put: when you are feeling worthless, it's a lie from the enemy. But when you give yourself to exalting Jesus, giving Him your worship, it can't be done except through SPIRIT and TRUTH which in-turn reveals that you are totally valuable and that's why Jesus died for you.
