For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Eph 2:10 (NLT)
A ‘Masterpiece’ is not an artists ‘run of the mill’ piece of artwork… It’s not the practise canvas, it’s not what they created on a whim that ‘almost works'… A masterpiece is that one piece that an artist has dreamt of, carefully planned and has painstakingly put together piece by piece, brush stroke at a time… A piece they are proud of and that embodies who they are and their vision as an artist.
We are God’s Masterpiece – not a practise canvas, not a construction made on a whim… We are the pinnacle of His life's work. We embody the heart, love, vision and grace of God.
And because of the cross – the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ – we are redeemable. A work of art that no matter what befalls or becomes of it, can always be restored to the level of ‘Masterpiece’ by the brushstrokes of Christ’s blood and grace. God has created us anew. No matter what you have done or has been done to you, God can recreate your heart and spirit and set you once again on the foundation of His love and peace. Unshakable, immovable, withstanding.
A ‘Masterpiece’ always has a purpose beyond itself. Maybe it's to inspire, remind, bring hope, encourage love, tell a story, be a blessing… It always has a place to stand and something to bring to those who engage it. In the same way, God has created us with a purpose – a purpose within the story of our lives. The story of how we were redeemed and restored, and continue to be daily. The story of the love and grace of God woven into the canvas and colours of our lives.
As you engage others through your day to day living, and through the ups and downs – the ebb and flow – of circumstances and situations, allow yourself to be a story, a picture, a Masterpiece of the kindness, love and grace of God to those around you. You don’t have to do anything crazy, just be yourself – the man or woman God has created you to be.
