That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. Romans 8:28 (MSG)
Weave Goodness into the Details – The Who Series – Part 3
Go to PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3 | PART 4
Are you your job?
Your marital status?
Your kids?
Your education?
Your bank balance?
Your history?
Your pains?
Your heartache?
Those things contribute. They are a part of your story. But who you are first and foremost is beloved. Made of love, from love, for love. That is the truest part of you.
Everything that happens to us and everything that we do, cannot separate us from who we really are (Romans 8). Sure, it might look like it for a time. We might act like it for a time. It might seem like some people are as far from love as we might imagine evil to be. We might go through seasons and situations where we forget and we can’t see the love that we are. Ones where we think the lights been permanently snuffed out. Where it’s hard to trust the foundation that is surely beneath us. I get it.
But there is a love for us, and to us, that takes the things we’ve experienced – the good and the bad – and draws them into itself in such a way that it redeems and adds beauty to our lives. It’s a transformative love that seeks to build us deeper into who we really are. “That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.” (Rom 8:28 MSG).
It’s not that God only does good things for those who profess to love him, who are part of a certain group, or church, or community, or exclusive tribe.
When love has its way with you and your life and your story, it weaves goodness into the details. Resurrection goodness. It takes the things that we think have scared us for eternity and turns them into a sacred, holy beauty.
You are the things that have happened to you. But more than that, you are the love that got you through those things. The good and the bad.
I apologize if this sounds like a platitude. It’s easy to write; it’s hard to journey through.
It takes a lifetime to learn to trust Divine Love.
It can take a lifetime for resurrection to bloom in our lives.
But it's worth the journey.
