So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. – 2 Cor 4:18 (NIV)

When we ask children “what do you want to be when you grow up?”, most often we are looking for a tangible answer such as a policeman, a teacher, a lawyer… etc. Which isn't a bad thing, but it shows that we focus on what we can see and touch… we place much weight on the physicality of life and not often on the unseen elements.

Imagine if we encouraged children to answer that question with things such as “kind, generous, strong, brave, compassionate, helper, healer, friend, protector” – the unseen qualities of humanity which effect our physical world in a tangible way. Image driven living leads to a shallow life. Depth is created by building character, tested faith, trusting and being hopeful.

When it comes to our relationship with God, our humanity always looks for physical signs of His presence. But Christianity is all about faith – believing in what you cannot see and, at times, what you cannot prove physically. Our faith is built upon the unseen, the untouchable, but the undeniable and unquenchable love of God.

How much would the world change if we chased after kindness instead of positions; If we built character and hope rather than empires, and practised humility and compassion in the place of coming first. The unseen matters more than we know and impacts our everyday lives.

I challenge you today to have ‘look' into the unseen in two ways. 1) instead of focusing on ’to-do’ lists and racing to get the job done, think of how you can show kindness, sow hope and bring joy in the midst of your day. 2) pray… invite the unseen God, the Holy Spirit, into your very tangible and physical world. Allow your faith to direct your conversations and decisions. It will transform your day. Have an awesome one!
