While we look not at things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Cor 4:18 (KJV)
When we ask children “what do you want to be when you grow up?”, most often we are looking for a tangible answer such as “a policeman, a teacher, a lawyer… etc”. Which isn't a bad thing, but it does show that we are so focused on what we can see and touch… we place so much weight on the physicality of life and not often on the unseen elements. We should be encouraging children to answer that question with things such as “kind, generous, strong, brave, compassionate, helper, healer, friend, protector” the unseen qualities of humanity which effect our physical world in a tangible way. Image driven living only leads to a shallow life. Depth is created by building character, testing faith, trusting and hope. When it comes to our relationship with God, it's our human way to look for signs – things we can touch, smell and see – with Jesus. But Christianity is all about faith – believing in what you cannot see, at times, what you cannot prove physically. Its built on the unseen, the untouchable, but the undeniable and unquenchable love of God. How much would the world change if we chased after kindness instead of positions. If we built character and hope rather than empires. And practised humility and compassion in the place of coming first. The unseen matters more than we know and impacts our every day lives. I challenge you today to have a ‘look' at the unseen in two ways. 1) instead of focusing on tasks, think of how you can show kindness, sow hope, bring joy… 2) pray… invite the unseen God, the Holy Spirit, into your very tangible and physical world. Allow your faith to direct your conversations and decisions. It will transform your day. Have an awesome one…
