Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matt 5:8 (NIV)
Purity equals God-vision! Plain and simple. Want to taint your ability to see and hear from God? Easy…just allow your heart to get all muddied and murky! Now the easy way out of this conversation is to say that anyone who's made a mess won't see God… but that's theologically unsound! Or in layman's terms: Not the way God does stuff. He's actually in the business of turning messes into successes.
So how can I get pure while I'm still messy so that I can see God and He can help me out of this mess? Easy! It's all about pride. Pride, as we often say, is about doing things your way. Not asking or inviting God into your situation. Working it out on your own. Ever seen a tractor or 4WD bogged in the mud? When they try to get themselves out, mud flies everywhere making more of a mess, and more often than not, they get even further stuck, deeper in the mud. Enter a tow vehicle. It can latch on and pull the stuck vehicle free with less fuss and mess. That's God! He's the tow vehicle that can rescue us from the mess we're in. But first we have to acknowledge we can't do it without Him (removing pride) and allow Him to hitch onto our lives.
Being pure at heart is not about being perfect or doing the right things. It's simply removing pride by allowing God to help… that's all He really wants to do. When you do that, you'll find yourself in a place where you can see better than you ever did. Without mud in your eyes and out of the depths of the sludge. Ps 40:2 says “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Love you guys beyond belief! Have the best day!
