The Sunday Best – 3rd of April 2016
Some of our favourite and most popular content and discoveries during the last week!
Most Popular PktFuel.com post: Common Grace – Jesus equates greatness not with wealth, or ‘success,’ or fame or fortune, or dominant power, or hierarchical authority. The highest honour is reserved for the humble. The vulnerable. The Generous. Those who believe they are here to serve, not be served. Read more here »
Book I've just finished: “Room” by Emma Donoghue – Yes, Yes. It’s a Hollywood movie I know, and Brie Larson is one of my favourite actors at the moment (Short Term 12 anyone?!!). But honestly, read the book. I couldn’t put it down. I’ve never read anything like it. Horrific yet hopeful, I shed more than a few tears when I read the last page. This book is a gift.
Quote I've been pondering: I came across the following article last week while I studying for an upcoming series on our App (DVO) on Belief, Questions and Doubt. It’s called “The art of asking questions” by Chief Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks. It really challenged, and so far, has proved to influence one our “Post-School” practices with our kids. Rabbi Sacks says, “The Nobel prize-winning Jewish physicist Isidore Rabi once explained that his mother taught him how to be a scientist. ‘Every other child would come back from school and be asked, “What did you learn today?” But my mother used to ask, instead, “Izzy, did you ask a good question today?”’ In the yeshiva, the home of traditional Talmudic learning, the highest compliment a teacher can give a student is Du fregst a gutte kasha, ‘You raise a good objection.’”
Podcast we're both enjoying: We love the Serial Podcast (Season 2 – although we've already smashed through Season 1) and are addicted to listening. Sarah Koenig's voice is like aahhhhhh. And her reporting is so compelling and entertaining all at the same time.
I mostly listen to books using Audible. (I've listened to 92 books in the last 2 years!) Signup now and get two books free without obligation.
