Running Races – Pilgrimage Series – Part 1 - Pocket Fuel on Hebrews 12:1Most Popular PktFuel.com post: Running Races » (from the “Pilgrimage” series)

I’m not a fan of ‘sermons’ or devotions that use ‘running races’ as a metaphor for our inner spiritual lives (even though I have used them in the past). It’s too clean cut, a shallowish explanation. For me (and other scholars (not calling myself a scholar AT ALL, just saying that people WAY smarter than me, think so too. FYI) it doesn’t cut deep enough into the complexity of life to liken our faith to a running race…

Quote we've been pondering:

“Faith is agreeing to live without full resolution. Both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Scriptures make that very clear. We are often called to walk in darkness, where God leads us to that next step which is usually not clear, predictable, or controllable by the rational mind.” – Thomas Merton

Book We're Reading:  Shauna Niequist has just released “Present Over Perfect” and we grabbed the audiobook version. This book resonates so profoundly with the style of living we are trying to produce in our own lives. Great read if you know that it's time to turn ‘busy' into ‘meaningful.'

Music I (Lizzy) love: Ólafur Arnalds is one of my favourite artists. He is a BAFTA award winning composer (for the TV Show Broadchurch) and his music often and easily takes me to a distant land! I often write these devotionals to his compositions as they spark a creative flow in me. Recently he has recorded a bunch of songs from his homeland of Iceland, called Island Songs. Check them out. My favourite is the first one.

Purchase we love: Would you put something on your skin you wouldn't eat? We've been trying to minimise ingesting or putting chemicals on our skin. To that end we have discovered  Vanessa Megan's line of natural perfumes for women and men (yes, Jesse is into it!) Check them out here.

I mostly listen to books using Audible. (I've listened to over 90 books in the last 2 years!) Signup now and get two books free without obligation.
