Yet I am confident I will see the Lord ’s goodness while I am here in the land of the living. Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. (Psalms 27:13, 14 NLT)
When we hear the word “goodness” in the context of God we mostly assume it means an “easy life”. God is gonna bring all the things I think are good and and dump them all over me…Yes! The early Christians lived in the goodness of God but didn't necessarily live in what we think of when we hear that word. They were persecuted, executed, whipped, imprisoned and more. Doesn't sound like the kind of goodness we think of in a western world context does it? In fact a life of goodness the way we imagine it usually means a life of least-resistance. No pressure, no money worries, all the things we need. Talk to a gym-junkie and ask them if they can grow muscle with no resistance…resistance ACTUALLY improves resilience. It take our faith, attitudes and internal capacity and grows it. That actually looks like the goodness of God. Eph 3:16 says that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,”. God's goodness really is is His strength in our weakness. His overcoming power in the face of trial and struggle. Romans 8:28 says “that He works all things together for GOOD for those that love Him and live according to His purposes” – It means we aren't immune to heartache and trouble but that He will provide the strength to get through it. 1 John 4:4 says “Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world”. No matter what you face today, learn that God can work it for good as He becomes powerful in you. Expect His goodness (read “overcoming power”) and look for His goodness in your life today! Ps 23:6 says it “will follow” us…al the days of our life. Bless you guys…as always, we love you heaps!
