May the Lord show you his favour and give you his peace. Numbers 6:26 (NLT)
The Blessing Part 3
Today we are finishing our short look into ‘The Blessing' found in Numbers 6. Every verse of this blessing starts with ‘May the Lord', just so that you know it is HIS desire to fulfil this blessing and for you to hear it. He is serious about what He says and never wastes His words… God always says what He means and means what He says. He wants to show you His favour. I get a picture here of a teacher and a student, a parent and a child, one showing the other how to do something new. God doesn't give you His favour separate from Himself – as in, He does't dump it and run… He takes the time and the energy to show you, teach you, reveal it to you. He takes you through your life and teaches you to recognise His favour on you – how to walk in it, live in it and receive it. Allow Him the space and time to ‘show you' His favour.
And He will give you His peace… one of the greatest gifts – the peace of God that Philippians 4:7 says “exceeds anything we can understand”, becomes ours. So through any situation, any circumstance – whether walking in happiness, or sitting in a boat in the middle of a great storm, we can know true peace. Peace that guards our hearts and minds from the corruption of fear and worry. What great words to be spoken over you… “May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favour and give you his peace” Numbers 6:24 – 26. Amen.
