The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? Ps 27:1 (NIV). A stronghold is defined as a place that has been fortified to protect against attack. When in a stronghold one can’t help but feel a sense of security and protection. It alleviates fear you could say. A military stronghold is a great example of what God is to us when we engage in full relationship with Him. Someone who is strong and able to deflect attack and protect us. One of His names as listed in Isaiah 9:6 is “Mighty God”. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 91 “He is my refuge and fortress”. They conjure up images and notions of strength but sometimes we can approach God with a sense of timidity and apprehension.
“Am I really safe in Him?” we ask ourselves… but everything about God is like a protective father. Wanting and waiting for us to run to Him and be taken up in His strength. It’s interesting that Hebrews 11 says it’s impossible to come to God without faith. Even more interesting is that when Ephesians lists the ‘Armour of God’ it says ‘faith’ is our shield. Today live in the stronghold of God. Don’t dabble around the outside, it’s dangerous there, but get inside His protection and you’ll find that you live far more confident and peaceful. Live strong today!
