But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength so that I might preach the Good News in its entirety for all the Gentiles to hear. And he rescued me from certain death. 2 Tim 4:17 (NLT).
I read acts 27 and 28 the other day and was again reminded of how much the Apostle Paul went through to walk out his calling in God. It was extremely full-on. He faced certain death constantly. When God calls you to be part of outworking His Gospel it actually means that you’ll have to rely on His strength. It’s a faith walk and journey that is fraught with uncertainty in human terms, but absolute assurance in supernatural terms.
That’s why Paul, despite losing friends, being beaten, being threatened with death by his captors, facing shipwreck, being bitten by a snake, facing hostile natives, being in chains, being turned upon by his colleagues, says “but the Lord stood with me and gave me strength…” If all those things didn’t happen he could only say “I did it all in my own strength”, but un-doubtably God was with him and therefore God receives the glory and the MESSAGE gets more notoriety than the MAN. If you’re feeling called to the ministry (that’s not necessarily being paid by a Christian organisation – but spreading the love of God!) then be prepared to face situations that will mean you must rely on His strength. And when they come make sure you remember to turn to God!
Pursue a situation today that causes you to rely on His strength… it’ll actually strengthen you! God bless…
