Sky Full of Stars – Part 2

Go to PART 1

Early last year, Jesse and I went to see one our favourite bands COLDPLAY at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. It was amazing. And while they were here touring, they filmed the music video for “Sky Full of Stars,” on the streets of Sydney! It's beautiful!

“‘Cause in a sky, 'cause in a sky full of stars
I think I saw you.”

God. The eternal stargazer, who cherishes each one and calls them ALL by name. No star is unseen or unknown.

God. The one who counts the stars and the hairs on our head (Luke 12:7). Who knows the world completely from start to finish and is intimately acquainted with each detail…

God. Who told Abraham to look up into the night sky… the deep dark and infinite stretch of atmosphere… “Count the stars Abraham…” He told him…

Cause in a sky full of stars, perhaps Abraham caught a glimpse of the heart of God…

If you’re quiet long enough to listen, if you’re still long enough to watch, you’ll find God weaved throughout all creation. He speaks through it, showing us the wonders of His greatness and the expanse of His attention.

Although I often pride myself (too much) on being able to do heaps of things at once (like write devotionals, cook dinner, help with homework, message a friend, and fold the washing – all the mums say “YES” – maybe…), it does wear me out and rattle my nerves. But God? He counts the stars. He deems them ‘count-worthy’. He has the time to think about them – name them even! They’re not just a means to an end, but precious bursts of light that beam His message to the world they shine upon.

In our world of towns, cities, cars, businesses, houses, invention, innovation, church buildings, museums, libraries, iPads, iMacs, smartphones, back accounts, buses, bridges and an infinite amount of more… it can be easy to look past creation, the world around us, the world that we physically live in and build our life upon, as something of no consequence.

But just as the artist knows his life’s work, every brush stroke and colour a deliberate choice, the final result telling a story to all who would dare see and hear… creation yearns for us to see the wonders of God painted all over it, on grand display, right before our eyes.

The hope found in a sunrise, the relief felt at sunset, the cool rush of the ocean, birdsong in the afternoon, fields offering their harvest, stars shining beauty upon us…

Step outside and look around. Get quiet and still and hear that natural rhythms of the Divine beating all around you. Revel in this beautiful masterpiece.

And then know that YOU, not it, are His eternal work…

You'll know that you are His eternal work. Click to Tweet

Whether you’re buried deep in a city or town, perched high in an office, surrounded by a ton of stuff, or are somewhere alone in a vast field – God, who knows the stars, knows and sees you.

“It’s such a heavenly view.”
