For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Cor 5:7 (NKJV)
In this passage, Paul is talking about how to live “at home in the body [but] absent from the Lord” (2 Cor 5:6)… It was a post-Jesus conundrum. The Son of God had walked, talked, breathed and lived with many of them – they still had physical memory of Jesus and His life on earth. But Jesus had ascended into heaven, and His disciples were left on earth. It ‘seemed’ that there was a separation again between God and man. We know that the Holy Spirit had entered the scene, but the teaching and understanding around Jesus living in hearts, living by the spirit of God, was still very new and revolutionary. Paul was encouraging those gathered at Corinth that the way to ‘walk out’ their life here on earth was by faith – believing that Jesus, while not physically and tangibly with them, was still very present and at work in their lives.
Sight was a distant part of the equation.
It's a grand mystery. Some say that those who believe in what their sight does not show them, or what they can't test or physically prove are immature and are not engaging logical or rational thought processes. But that's not the case.
To live by faith and conviction takes courage, maturity and determination. It shows a mental attitude towards life and belief that is based on more than whatever happens to be in front of us at any given moment. It engages another part of us… the mystical part that wants to know and feel that there is more to life than meets the eye.
We walk through life, we progress and journey from season to season, by believing and having faith that our Heavenly Father awaits us, and empowers us. It's this faith in what our sight does not reveal; the spiritual vibration felt in the undertones of living, which connects us all… that crimson thread weaved through lives built on Jesus across all times past, present and future.
Don’t live by appearances – they can be deceptive, flippant, ever changing with the times and seasons… Walk out your life step by step, day by day, by faith, the conviction that your hope lies not in what is seen with the human eye, but empowered in the knowledge that God is with you in every moment.
Wherever you are ‘walking today,' engage your faith… Don’t just go by appearances, but be led by your belief.
