PHILIPPIANS 4 SERIES – PART 7
Everyone wants to know the secret to life. Well, here it is in black and white! It’s being able to live on almost nothing AND with everything.
Most of us think we can handle having lots in our lives but the lottery tells us otherwise. 80% of lottery winners end up broke and in a worse position than before they won their lump sum. Why? Because they didn’t learn the secret to living which is to find contentment in the journey! To allow themselves to be developed internally.
Do you know how to live on almost nothing? No I didn’t ask “Do you live on almost nothing?” but “Do you KNOW HOW to live on almost nothing?” There’s a big difference just by adding two little words.
Knowing how to live changes you from the inside out. It means that no matter what external circumstance comes against you, you determine the outcome by the attitude you’ve developed on the inside!
This is ‘Fruit of the Spirit' living. Note that all the Fruit of the Spirit are internal characteristics. Fruit is not about cars, money or success BUT about the outflow of what happens on the inside of you. Jesus says, “You shall know them by their fruit”. Love, joy, peace, looooooong suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Paul knew how to live with lots and little because He allowed the Spirit to develop these fruit inside him. It means that when He faced shipwreck, false imprisonment, torture and the like… love, joy and peace flowed from Him. Those characteristics hardly flow from me when I get cut off in traffic or lose my car keys! Ha!
Today, make a commitment to start focusing on what’s going on, on the inside of you and make it less about the external things. When you start developing the internal fruit, it’s then you start knowing the secret… to life!
