Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5 (NKJV)

To be sanctified means to be “set apart – made holy, to consecrate, prepare, dedicate, be separate”. This passage of scripture has always meant a lot to me. From a young child, I, like many of you, have felt that tug of God on my heart, the pull of destiny and the hope of purpose. But, again, like many of you, my experiences somehow always left that feeling hanging, wanting… Falling short. Through seasons of hardship and failures, I began to feel as though I was no longer ‘qualified’, no longer worthy… Maybe I had squandered my sanctification – once ‘set apart’ but now lost in the crowd.

Jeremiah was an interesting soul. He obviously had some issues that he thought would limit what God could through him. Anyone relate? I certainly do. God, ever kind and patient, kept on reminding me that before Jeremiah spoke in front of the people, before he ever sinned or succeeded, before he had learnt to walk and talk, before he was even born, he was sanctified, set apart, prepared and purposed to live and breathe at the exact time and place he was set upon the earth. Our sanctification has nothing to do with us. Not our performance, our perfection, abilities, capacities… None of that. It rests and thrives purely and solely in God. Jesus was sent to the world as a keeper of this sanctification… Sealing it in his blood and making it live in his resurrection.

He sees who we really are, beneath the success and the failures, the joys and the heartaches… He knows us completely – loves us and wants to empower us to live the life he ‘set us apart’ for. You are sanctified in Jesus. Today, stop listening to the reasons and the excuses as to why you can’t live out the crazy dreams and purposes God has placed in your heart. From your very origin, God ordained you and sanctified you… So get living. Dream big and do much. Bless you guys.
