Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. – Matt 7:7 (NKJV)
QUESTIONS – PART 5
Even as Christians, we must be brave and ask the hard questions. Why do we do what we do? Why do we believe what we believe? Where do our certain practices and rituals come from?
There’s a story that illustrates this really well…
A woman was baking a ham one day and proceeded to cut off the edges of the ham. Her husband asked, “Why do you always cut the edges of the ham before you bake it?”
“Because my mother taught me to do it that way” she answered.
“Why don’t you call her to find out why then?” the husband returned. The wife called up her mother and asked “Hey mum, why did you teach me to cut the edges off the ham before it goes in the oven?”
“Because Nanna taught me to do it that way!” her mother responded.
The wife persisted and called up her Nanna and asked, “Nanna, why did you teach mum to cut the edges off the ham before she bakes it?”
“Because the pan we had when she was a child was usually too small to fit a ham in it and so we had to cut it down to fit in!”
What ham might you be wasting because you didn’t dig deeper and find out “why?”. What edges are you cutting off your understanding of God to make Him fit in the metaphorical baking pan?
“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory…” Rom 11:36 (NLT)
If God is in absolutely everything, then He’s a lot bigger than we can comprehend or contain…especially with our thinking.
If everything comes from Him and exists by His power and is for His glory then He will be given (revealed) to you when you ask questions. You will find Him when you seek Him and the door to His presence will be opened when you knock.
Just be brave and start…
