Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. – Matt 7:7 (NKJV)

QUESTIONS – PART 2

When you get a basic understanding of how our brain processes information, you realise that asking questions activates a powerful force for navigating life.

Telling someone the answer and asking them to solve a problem are two different types of information gathering.

The former is a surface form of learning that often doesn’t ‘hold fast' and the latter will encourage a “why behind the what” type of wisdom that can withstand higher amounts of opposition.

When I say to my son “Don’t hit your sister,” I’m handing him the answer; a way to respond to a situation if it is ever presented to him.

If I say to him “Don’t hit your sister. It makes her cry and how do you feel when you cry?” The question forces him to reflect internally, to piece together the given data, in a different manner. To analyse and interpret an answer on his own.

When you come to a conclusion or conviction that resulted from your own cognitive process, you tend to hold tighter to those conclusions and convictions than if the answer was just given to you. You have formulated a “why” behind the “what”; there is a reason to attach to the concluded answer.

Without a reason, conclusions can be easily blown away with the next puff of emotional or logical resistance.

That’s why it’s important we ask questions, including the hard ones, without fear. They help us get to a more watertight conclusion of why we think and believe the way we do.

God is not insecure about you asking questions so don’t shy away from them. After all, He did design you that way… to process information via cognitive means.

Jesus invites us to ask, seek and knock (Matt 7:7) and the first commandment is to love God with our heart, soul, strength and… MIND!

Blessings…
