Thank God for a new day!
We pray that wherever you are and whatever you're doing, that you find grace and peace in the midst of it. (I’m hoping to hunt down some good coffee and have a great laugh with friends.)
Take this opportunity to read back through any devotions you may have missed, or ones that resonated with you and ask God to reveal more of himself to you as you read.
Over the past week we looked at:
“The Parable of the Sower,” Matt 13:1-23.
“The Pearl of Great Price.” Matt 13:45-46.
‘The Parable of the Sower' challenged my views on God as a Father. Do I believe he generously sows seed on us all? Or am I too busy looking at the condition of other peoples heart, and my own, and making judgements about them rather than being receptive to Him?
‘The Parable of the Pearl of Great Price' challenged me to the core around my vocation. Am I willing to step aside from all that I have to obtain what I want? Would I sell everything I have for my “pearl of great price?”
What is your pearl?
For me at the moment, it’s writing. Developing my craft and committing myself to it day in and day out. Selling up my desires to watch endless hours of Netflix and wanderings through the local mall, to sitting at my desk and putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys, more like it). For some people, their pearl is the safety of their children in the midst of an abusive relationship. Or finding the right treatment for a loved one. For others, the pearl is their education, their sport, their art form. For some, the pearl is women’s rights. And for others still, their pearl is the preservation of the environment or fair trade for farmers. What is that one thing that gets you up in the morning, makes your blood thick and warm, that when you give it out and into the world it declares the love of God in a way only you can? Be careful, it will change your life. Buying the pearl changed the merchant.
And if you’re not sure what your pearl is right now, one of my literary heroes tells of a good place to start: “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
How did these parables impact you? We’d love to hear from you! And let us know of the parables, or scriptures, or stories you would like us to write about. Let’s keep the conversation going.
A benediction:
“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lifts up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26.
Amen.
