Daily Brew – Part 3 – Your Part
They say that 2000 hours goes into making a cup of coffee from the time you germinate a seed to the point where you brew it and serve it.
Most specialty coffee is made with Arabica which is grown at high altitude, meaning that it’s usually picked by hand. After it’s processed, it’s then sorted and graded by hand. From there it’s bagged and shipped to the countries around the world where it is roasted.
By the time it arrives for a barista to work with, it’s seen a lot of different people and processes. Their job is to respect that process by giving it their best – making it into a delicious cup for you to enjoy.
When it comes to humanity, we all play our own special parts. People have different experiences and journeys but fundamentally come from the same source, God.
It’s tempting to view difference as bad or wrong. It’s even more tempting to devalue the work of someone or something different. But each person has had ordeals, exploits and circumstances that have passed through their hands and have shaped them. These experiences hold value because they form a person – for good or bad. They create contours, unseen, that are intimately intrinsic to who they are.
And who they are matters.
Our job is to take what has been shaped and formed and show it the love and nurture it deserves – the unending and unconditional love of the Creator.
Each of us plays a part that is human but at the same time mysterious, caring for and honing the journey or the hundreds and thousands of lives that pass through our hands.
If we were to do our part with utmost pride and love, taking particular care with each and every one, knowing that our part is vital, the amount of suffering, loneliness and brokenness would almost certainly cease.
Just like the coffee farmer in Ethiopia doesn’t see where his beans end up, so it is with those that pass through our lives.
So what’s important is that we do our part with great love and passion.
