Psalm 46:10: Be still and know that I am God.

I use it as part of my contemplative prayer practice. In a place of prayer – being aware, awake, alive to God in me, and around me – the ‘knowing' of God can flow. Not in a terribly definitive way like now I know “X, Y and Z” about God. But the kind of knowing that faith brings.

In the stillness, I know God is there. I know he is love. And I know there is more to know.

The stillness of prayer brings another ‘knowing,’ too.

Its here, in prayer and meditation and stillness before the Divine, that I’ve been able to know myself more. I’ve been able to see myself as the Divine sees me: beloved. Before I spoke a word, made any decisions or mistakes, I was loved. Created in love, by love, for love.

If you know me well, you’ll know that I HATE fluffy talk. Ha! Please be assured that I’m not being fluffy or light or whimsical about Divine love. Not at this moment. The love I’ve discovered as I’ve searched God and myself out has been powerful, redemptive, empowering, sobering, and miraculous. It’s the kind of love that midwifes transformation, that holds hands with responsibility, and bids you rise even if/when you don’t feel like, or feel like you can.

Who are you?

You might be a hundred things to one hundred different people:

Parent
Partner
Child
Friend
Foe
Employee
Boss
Advocate
Colleague
Neighbour
Teacher
Student

We are all many different things at any given time.

But beneath it all, you are, always have been, and always will be this one essential thing: love.
