…of whom the world was not worthy.
Hebrews 11:38 (NKJV)
This passage of scripture speaks of men and women who have endured great trials and losses for the sake of the Kingdom and our encouragement. The NLT says these people ‘were too good for the world'. It makes me think of those whose names we'll never hear at conferences or in newspapers, who will rarely been seen… But who fiercely follow Jesus no matter what the circumstances.
Courageous, loyal, steadfast, faithful.
Men and women advancing the kingdom in countries where it's not legal to do so; the bullied teenager loving and praying for their enemies; the housewife committed to raising her children whole and healthy; the father struggling to put food on the table; victims of abuse forgiving and healing; the sick labeled with death but living by faith; the persecuted not giving up – enduring till the end; the widow allowing love to flow freely from her heart… I could go on.
The people who show me the greatest example of Jesus are those who do so in the still, in the dark, in the unseen places. Today's devotion is dedicated to a friend of mine, Mel, who lost her husband 2 years ago. She and her two young boys are a never ending source of faith for me, an inspiration – she brings me great hope. She is one whom the world is not worthy of. Respect and love goes out to all of you today who are facing hardship – you are not alone, you are graced, you have eternal favor, you are significant, you are not forgotten – thank you for your sacrifice and example. Much love xo.
