Master Step
In Matt 10, Jesus gives the disciples the “authority” to heal the sick, cast out demons, raise the dead and give freely to those in need – He was sending them out. It was a conversation filled with excitement, anticipation and destiny as Jesus charged them with a ‘mission'. He went on to warn them about the trouble they may face, and to see moments of danger as opportunities for the Kingdom of God to flow into the situation and impact those involved.
I’ve started watching “Friday Night Lights” (all our Texan friends will be proud…), and this talk Jesus gives the disciples reminds me of something Coach Taylor might say to His team right before a State Championship game… haha!
Have you even been in one of those moments? Before an important sporting match? Or the moment you need to make a major life decision? Where you feel purpose whispering in your ear and the ‘call' tugging at your heart? It’s when you know something important is about to happen that could change your life… resonance swells within you and the ‘unknown’ pumps adrenaline through your body.
We hesitate when we fear the unknown. Questions of “what if this or that happens” can keep us from living in the moment and stepping out in faith.
Jesus says in V28-30 (MSG) “Don’t be bluffed into silence by the threats of bullies. There’s nothing they can do to your soul, your core being. Save your fear for God, who holds your entire life—body and soul—in his hands. What’s the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don’t be intimidated by all this bully talk. You’re worth more than a million canaries…”
Don’t fear. When you hear God calling you, asking you to step out, do it confidently and by faith knowing that He sees and hears you, no matter what happens. And as you abandon all else to be involved in the very purpose you were born for, you will find more life than you ever imagined.
You are worth more than to be weighed down with fear… let it go and step out.
