“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8 (NIV)
Peter is writing here about the ‘end times' and he states that in these times, one of the most important things to do is to ‘love each other deeply'. Not gather all your money and assets… not throw in the towel and go travelling… But love each other. It speaks to me of authenticity. Don't love with a shallow heart, but love deeply… the risky kind of love. Authentic, genuine, all there. People are hungry for what's ‘real'… we are fed magazines, music, news stories, movies, TV shows etc full of perceived success, but it lacks that personal depth. The authentic touch. When you reach out to someone, do it with your whole heart… abandoned to love and her generous ways. When you love someone authentically, knowing their faults and failings, having been victim of them, it is powerful and complete… covering sins and stains with hope and restoration. That's what Jesus has done for us – loves us deeply, with risk, loaded with generosity and genuineness. It's that knowing that we are loved, not because of anything we do, but because of who He is and who we are, that is the most freeing experience. Now, be Jesus with skin on… Go and love deeply anyone you can… It's amazing what genuine authentic love does in you and in it's recipient. And remember – be ‘all there' – genuine, real, authentic. Big love.
