Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:2 NKJV) When I first started studying economics, in the very first lesson, we learned that human beings have unlimited and unquenchable wants and desires and this is the foundation for modern capitalism. There is so much in this world wanting to bring your attention and focus down to just you. At the very cause is sin-nature. The ‘flesh' better known as ‘self' or ‘selfish desire' gives you an accurate understanding of what sin will do left un-checked in a human. It gathers to itself, fulfilling its own desires. ‘What is the next step that will benefit me?' is the subconscious internal thought-process of sin nature. It can get more insidious than that though. ‘If I bless this person then I'll set myself up for this blessing over here…' – the challenge is to keep your focus on the ‘things above' not what's down here on earth. Jesus said I have come to ‘serve not to be served'. Notice how that attitude is so totally opposite of sin nature. There's no ‘me' in that statement…only ‘others'. Check yourself today and keep resetting your mind to the things above. Live today, to be a blessing to others. It'll be an awesome day I guarantee it…
