Isaiah 49:16 – The Amplified – “Behold, I have indelibly imprinted (tattooed a picture of) you on the palm of each of My hands; [O Jerusalem] your walls are continually before Me.”
Isaiah is prophesying over the Israelites who once inhabited Jerusalem in strength and unity. The people had abandoned God and His ways, there was great political turmoil and unrest thought the land. This passage written by Isaiah is, like many written in this book, such a beautiful picture of the cross and our salvation. He was prophesying the redemption of the nation, and beyond that redemption for all the world for all time. Long before Jesus walked the earth He set his plan for salvation in motion and sowed its seeds into the earth and its people. Just like Isaiah prophesied, Jesus did have our names carved, engraved into His hands through the nails that pierced Him… Not just on one hand… We often write notes of things we don't want to forget on one of our hands… But Jesus was pierced in both, a constant and unshakable statement of His love and sacrifice for us. Those wholes in His hands represent a great love story, a tremendous pursuit of the lengths God went to to secure you and I in His arms. Just as the seeds of salvation were being prophesied and sown into the world long before Jesus came, even now He is at work on your future… He is at work on your family and friends salvation… He has not and will not forget you or His promises to you. They are indelibly and undeniably imprinted on both His hands. Have a blessed day friends…
