LOVE SERIES – PART 4 – Good Morning Hot Stuff
In a world that celebrates manufactured and artificial beauty, it’s no wonder that loving our bodies comes with its own set of difficulties and challenges for both men and women. As a teenager, I felt the pressure of being a certain size and looking a certain way, so much that I started to control what I ate and abused laxatives as a way of keeping my weight down. Needless to say, I ended up with all kinds of issues from that season, and I still couldn’t look in the mirror and love what I saw, no matter how skinny I got. We can be hard on ourselves and comparative when it comes to our bodies.
We can be healthier… Whatever it is you hate about your body it should have nothing to do with your appearance. Hate should never even come into it! If you want to change something, let it be about your health.
When God looks at you, He doesn’t categorise you according to your physical features. 1 Sam 16:7 says “man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” His love for you isn’t based on what brand of clothing you wear, what makeup you wear, how you’ve done your hair, how much your suit cost, how many hours you did at the gym yesterday… God loves you – inside and outside… all of you.
And He does LOVE what you look like. How you look is what makes you uniquely you. The world is made up of billions of individuals and we should learn to celebrate diversity instead heroising conformity.
Be proud of who you are, love your body. If you do have issues there, I have learned through trial and error that change will not come from a motivation of hate and self loathing… That will only drive you deeper into despair and self-destructive behaviour. But as you learn to love yourself, you’ll start to see yourself differently, and from a motivation of love and being kind to yourself, change is birthed.
Jesus created you and He loves you… Challenge yourself to look in the mirror and say “Good morning hot stuff!” because YOU are beautiful.
