“For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” – Matt 11:30
Expectations are something we all have and all get. I'm sure you expect your government to do the right thing by all of it's citizens. I bet you expect your wife or husband to honour you're marriage vows. I know you'll expect you're employer to pay you at then end of each week. We all experience either end of expectations but sometimes it can feel like a soul crushing load. Kids, partner, teachers, boss, the bank and even Church, all vying for their allocated time and resources…their expected slice of your life. In v28 of this passage, Jesus encourages “all who are weary and carry heavy burdens” to come to Him. What's interesting is He doesn't say “Here, let me take that for you”, He says “I will give you rest…let me teach you” – Learning to rest in Jesus is the yoke or ‘expectation' He asks us to take on. He knows that it will give us strength to carry out all that He has entrusted to us. If you're carrying a great load it means you'll have a great reward for it (to whom much is given much is required) BUT Jesus promises to give you rest (read “the strength & grace to continue to completion”) if you just trust it to Him. God WANTS TO and WILL DO great things through you. Trust Him today. Much love friends.
