Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Prov 4:23 (NLT)

Guarding your heart is not just about protecting what comes in but it's about watching what comes out too! Luke 6:45 says “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks”. The Bible also says that “life and death are in the power of the tongue” (Prov 18:21) so the conclusion is, if your heart is full of negativity, hurt, pain and discouragement, then your words will flow freely with these themes….and they are definitely the DEATH setting as opposed to the LIFE setting. I know that none of us really want to speak death over our situations or relationships and so it's important that we guard our hearts…guard what comes in and goes out! I follow the research at the “Heart Math Institute” and they have some pretty amazing discoveries about the heart. One of which is that it actually does “think” for itself in many respects. They refer to it as the ‘heart-brain'. There is actually more communication going to the head-brain, from the heart, than vice versa. You know those moments when your feelings get you so enraged that you say something you don't really mean? That's your heart overriding your brain. You think to yourself “I don't know what I was doing” because your logic controller (brain) would never say that. The Psalmist writes “I've hidden Your word in my heart” which influences what's going in BUT having the word close to your heart also filters what comes out. Today allow God's word to be a guard that directs what comes out of your heart. It'll set you on a dynamic new course that will bless you and those around you. Live powerfully today…in His name!
