The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk not to stand still in terror, but to walk and make spiritual progress upon my high places of trouble, suffering, or responsibility! Hab 3:19 (Amp)

Have you ever seen those mountains that are rocky, incredibly steep – the ones that look almost impossible to climb? Yet, those mountains seem to have these tiny little trails no wider than a few centimetres that wind up and around the mountain. A hind is a female deer that lives in mountains such as these. As they climb those impossible mountains, their back feet step in exactly the same place that their front feet stepped in moments before. It is the most sure-footed, focused and agile mountain animal.

When Habakuk used ‘Hinds feet’ as an illustration in this passage, he wasn’t being weird or abstract, but deliberate and precise. Yesterday I mentioned that we went through a horrible season as a family, and I remember feeling afraid of the future, uncertain… I had no idea what to do next, or how to move forward. I’m sure many you can relate! But with God as our strength, He causes us to walk sure-footed, agile and focused up the most difficult, harsh and rocky mountains so that after the ‘walking through' is complete, we can stand on the peak and understand what it is to be an ‘overcomer.' And standing that peak, you will take in the view of God’s promises fulfilled.

If you are in that place today of difficulty, not sure how to move forward, what decision to make or steps to take – allow God’s strength to sure-up your footing and bring confidence to your steps.

Psalm 119:105 says “Your word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light to my path.” Look to the truth and wisdom found in God’s word – what is He whispering to your heart?

Sometimes panic and fear get in the way of moving forward… Calm your heart, still your mind, focus on Jesus. Allow His peace to ground you and His word to lead you. You will find that in Christ, that mountain that looks so impossible and ridiculous will be climbable. You will make it.
