Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34)

I once heard of an Africa tribe who caught monkeys using a clay mound with holes in it. They put pieces of fruit in the holes and monkeys would climb up the mound and stick their hand in the holes to grab the fruit.

Once they had the fruit and closed their fists, their hands were too big to remove from the hole but in the monkey's ignorance, they refused to let go of the fruit. This made it easy for the tribesman to come along and catch them.

This is a picture of what un-forgiveness does to us. We hold onto something even if it causes us death. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that we're letting them off the hook for what they owe us, if we forgive, when the reality is that ‘not forgiving' traps us and makes us an easy target for the enemy.

It's inevitable, in a world full of humanity, infected by sin-nature, that this life is going to present us with hurts and disappointments but the sooner you can be ok with that, the quicker you can move on from the pain of the situations that create it. Forgiveness is the greatest key to moving on.

As Christians, we have the greatest example of forgiveness to model our own forgiveness on. Just imagine if God got stuck in the past. He wouldn't have moved forward with a plan (the life and death of Jesus) to fix the problem. Most people get stuck in the past because they hang onto not forgiving and it becomes a trap…one that ends in death if you hang onto it long enough. Death of joy, peace, thankfulness and all the things that make us feel alive.

Today choose to forgive your past and those that hurt you and move forward into the future that God intended for you. We love you guys so much…God bless…
