“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead” – Phil 3:13
I love Philippians – it would have to be one of my favourite books…there's so many keys for victorious living packed into it's four chapters! If you haven't read it for a while, I want to encourage you to do so. What Paul is effectively saying in this passage is that “he's not perfect” but he quickly follows that statement up with “forgetting the past…looking forward…” Too often, too many of us look in the mirror and focus on our imperfections. We look at what we don't have, or what we do have that limits us. This is not just in the physical but also in mental, emotional and relational areas of our lives. We allow our past situations and experiences to keep us there…in our past! Jer 29:11 says “I know the plans I have for you…to give you a future and a hope…” God is interested in our future. He knows we have a past but can only see our future. You see your future always holds a hope for you to live perfectly in God's will and is in no way affected or connected to your past EXCEPT through one decision…and that is by saying “yes” to Jesus! Today be at peace with the fact that your past will never be perfect. Stop looking in the metaphorical and actual mirror…it can only ever reflect your past which doesn't matter to God concerning your future. But discipline yourself to look at Christ and all that He has planned out for you. He is the perfected and finisher of your faith (Heb 12:2) – We love you guys and girls! You ARE overcomers! Be blessed ????????
