No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead… (Phil 3:13)

I love the saying “your past does not equal your future” and this is especially true for us as Christ followers.

One of the biggest challenges for almost every person, is to let go of our past mistakes.

Bigger still, is to let go of the past mistakes of others!

It boils down to something God is extremely good at: forgiveness. Forgiveness of yourself and others. Ultimately forgiveness of your past.

Ever tried driving a car whilst constantly looking in the rear-view mirror? It's near impossible to get to your destination because your focus is on what's behind and not what's ahead! I really love that God is in the business of separating what we've done from who we are.

It means that we can confidently move forward, into the destiny laid before us, with no guilt or condemnation. Romans 12:2 says “…let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

We learn to know God's will for us (His future plan and purpose) by letting Him transform us into a new person (not connected to what we've done in the past) by changing the way we think. It means you really have to embrace a new way of thinking in order to enter into your God-given future.

The old way wants to keep you steeped in your past, dwelling on how you are not qualified or good enough for a future filled with brightness, opportunity or blessing.

Be like Jesus and choose to forget your past. Learn from it and then leave it behind. While you're at it, forget the past of others as well. It'll make you freer and propel you faster into the future that God has for you. Much love to you today…
