Declare His glory among the nations, His wonders among all peoples. 1 Chron 16:24 (NIV)

PART 4 – For Him and His Glory

Part of worship is to declare God's glory; to him, to yourself and those around you. Worship is more than singing and songs, it's more than prayer and silence. It is the sound of our life and response of our heart to God's love and grace.

In John 14:15, Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commands.” In Mark 12 He says that the greatest commandments are to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.

If you love God, keep loving. That's the command. The highest form of declaring his glory and wonder among the nations and among ALL people is to LOVE. Love is our declaration.

Music helps us express the feeling and emotion of love, the deep yearning within our soul towards someone. But we also worship with our lives…And together, our song and hands declare the love of God throughout our worlds.

Kindness is a melody everyone can sing along to.

Frederick Buechner writes, “To worship God means to serve him. Basically, there are two ways to do it. One way is to do things for him that he needs to have done — run errands for him, carry messages for him, fight on his side, feed his lambs, and so on. The other way is to do things for him that you need to do — sing songs for him, create beautiful things for him, give things up for him, tell him what's on your mind and in your heart, in general rejoice in him and make a fool of yourself for him the way lovers have always made fools of themselves for the one they love.
A Quaker Meeting, a Pontifical High Mass, the Family Service at First Presbyterian, a Holy Roller Happening — unless there is an element of joy and foolishness in the proceedings, the time would be better spent doing something useful.

Our relationship with God is one that can bear the full brunt of life… carry its width and breadth… it can go the distance and heights, and stays close and still. God is there in the dark and hopeless, he is there in the sunshine and fun. He is near to the broken-hearted, and dances with the joyful. He gives strength to the weak and wisdom to all. To worship God is to engage in this relationship, to accept and receive his love, and then live in-love with him in our day-to-day lives in the practical and unknowable.

Worship connects us to wonder, it opens our eyes to the divine and answers the deep yearning in our soul. There is no right way, words, form, or place to worship, there is just time for it. Don’t let the pursuit of theology, security, of being right, of having all your I’s dotted and T’s crossed steal away your ability to be filled with awe and wonder. Allow yourself to be surprised by grace when you stare into the heart of God.

So, open up your life, worship like there is nothing better to do. Because clearly, there isn’t.
