Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. 1 Cor 11:1 (NIV)
There's no denying this is one challenging verse! After all who can be just like Jesus? It's a near impossibility!!! Before I was a Christian, I tried to live my life as a good person. With all the strength and wisdom I could summon, I would endeavour to treat people and myself, the best way possible. Unfortunately, without a reference point, or a definable position to come back to, I was lost at sea! Waves were washing me too, and fro and the metaphorical rip was dragging me further away from what I desired to be.
Then I found Jesus… a reference point to keep me coming back to the truth. Not only did this reference point guide me, but He welcomed me back when I strayed off-course. He covered up (and still covers) all my mistakes and draws me into His love. I'm motivated by His grace to want to follow and strive for His ways. He is my anchor amongst stormy seas when the rip tries to pull me away.
Following His example is not about being ‘perfect', it's about simply ‘following’. And when you fall off the horse, get back on and keep following – just keep going. Follow Him and don't give up. Being a true disciple is not about being perfect, it’s about walking with Jesus through every high and low, every season, every success and every failure. Allow Him to lead you, not into perfection, but by relationship. Follow Jesus’ example, and be an example to others of His grace and redemptive power. Today, whatever waves come against you, make a decision to ‘follow' Christ. Blessings friends…
