Feelings....nothing more than feelings...

“Even if we feel guilty, God is greater than our feelings, and he knows everything.” – 1 John 3:20 (NLT)

“God is greater than our feelings…” – just dwell on those few words for a minute.

Whatever ‘feeling' you have, about anything, GOD IS GREATER! Feel like everyone at school laughs at you behind your back? God is greater! Feel like your wife doesn't give you the love you need? God is greater! Feel like things will never change? God is greater!

Feelings can be helpful in an intuitive sense but are often prohibitive from a reality sense. For example: you can walk into a room full of people and sense that there's an atmosphere. That's when feelings serve you well. But they can cut you down when you feel like you've failed or that God is distant.

Romans 8:1 says “There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus…” so the feeling of failure is invalid in God's esteem. The Bible says He's “in all things and through all things…” and so Him feeling distant is, once again, an invalid feeling.

2 Cor 5:7 “We walk by faith and not by sight” – it's not our feelings that should lead us on our journey, but our faith in God and who He is and what He promises. After all it's faith (not feelings) that pleases God (Heb 11:6).

The enemy often plays off your feelings to stir up fear and anxiety to discourage and distract you. The spirit of fear is not from God and He is GREATER than anything that could cause you fear in the first place.

The challenge therein lies, that when a feeling rises up within us, we must ask ourselves “does it line up with the word of God?” If it doesn't, then we need to expel it and replace it with the word of God.

A feeling left on it's own, without any reference or anchor, will run riot and cause destruction. It's the word that will always trump or validate any feeling.

God is greater than any feeling you have and His word is the reliable truth about who you are and the future you have in Him. Peace…
